I attend many formal events.

 

Charity galas, award ceremonies, and industry dinners are environments where organizations bring together donors, sponsors, and communities, often in support of work that matters deeply, and I am often at the table.

 

Over time, I began to notice something that is rarely documented. Most event communication focuses on the cause, the fundraising result, and the visual record of the evening. Much less attention is given to what it actually feels like to be there, including how the event unfolds, how guests move through it, and what contributes to a sense that the evening is working as intended.

 

Those details are not incidental. They determine how enjoyable an event is for me, and they shape how an event is received, remembered, and supported over time.

 

I attend as a guest, not as a sponsor or organizer, and I write independently about what I observe.

 

The Gala Register is a central element of my work. Each entry is my account of a specific event, focused on my experience of attending and the elements that define it in practice.  The rest of the site reflects the same perspective.

In Dress Codes and Etiquette I write about the framework that shapes behavior within those environments. In How I Dress for a Gala I show how I approach getting ready for and participating in these evenings myself.

Together, my writing is my way of making formal events more visible, understandable, and enjoyable.

 

My goal is to document what I experience but rarely see articulated, and to offer a clear, experience-based perspective that guests, donors, and organizers can use to better understand how an evening actually comes together.

 

I love attending formal events, and I want my readers to feel my sense of ease and enjoyment.
